Great tool for the serious carver Review by JImbo
A couple cautions: Only use this with a guard and auxiliary handle. Use it two handed with a good face shield, long gloves, ear and dust protection. Be Extremely Careful Carving Bowls!!!!
Other than that, it's a dream. The anti-kickback teeth with chip limiting make for an amazingly smooth cut. It's far better, in my experience, than the Lancelot, which cuts rougher and lacks the control surfaces of this blade. Something in the blade design allows you to work off a flat spot and angle the teeth down into the cut to make smooth, even, controlled cuts.
My only safety issue ever was when carving a bowl ~ 12" dia. I was working the far side, coming straight down into the wood, and the teeth caught, pushing the cutter down into the bowl, It climbed the near side, heading straight towards my face. Thank got for the quick intervention of whatever spirits guard me from my own stupidity.
That said, in all other ways it is a remarkably fast and safe way to power carve. Well thought out, controllable, surprisingly easy to use. Know your limits, stay alert, keep it sharp, and always be careful. (Posted on 9/15/11)
