Ice Axe Cane Handle

I wasn't sure what to expect when I finished my new cane, but I found it more comfortable in use for long periods than the brass hame handled cane I had been using for several years - doesn't cause my hand to cramp up. One close look at the handle from a potential mugger and they'll look for someone else to mess with! Found it very easy to mount on my elm shaft too. (Posted on 10/21/11)

This piece looks good and makes an attractive hiking stick topper. I just went on a hike in Mammoth Lakes in June, and the snow was still so thick I actually ended up using it as an ice axe to cut steps up the hill. It worked great, shows no wear, and gave me some chuckles as I dug my way up. Plus, I don't get the fisheye or calls to the cops I might get for walking around with an actual ice axe. This handle looks great in the rack but I have not found anyone who thinks that it is comfortable to use, but as a show piece it is my best so far. I know that this a mixed message but it is what it is. (Posted on 8/8/10)
