Brass Bird Cane Handle

I installed my bird cane handle on a thick section of vine that had been growing up and around a young alder sapling. The resulting look is that of a bird sitting on top of a spring. The wings I made more distinctive by burnishing them with a really fine sand paper, sanding in one direction, then refinished the coating to protect the brass. On the base I used a threaded brass water reducer fitting to help protect the footing.
The Bird handle gives my cane a distinctive sure grip that is both solid and fully functional and I would use it again on another project. (Posted on 1/31/12)

I hand carved a cane from a maple branch from my tree. It was a free form branch and needed a distinctive look. This bird cane handle was ideal. Perfect 3/4 in. interior diameter.
The cane is stained dark with knots and imperfections. The bird is heavy and a very comfortable grip. Excellent product. (Posted on 8/28/11)
